Succeeding in the world of work requires understanding the "rules of the game". A 200-hour apprenticeship at Express Bike Shop is a comprehensive introduction to employment:
* Working side-by-side with experienced mechanics, all of our youth apprentices complete an intense Bicycle Repair Certification process.
*Apprentices are thoroughly schooled in the daily shop responsibilities including customer service, ordering and stocking items in the retail area, preparing bank deposits and paying the bills. These efforts put them on track for a Small Business Certification.
*As they gain experience, they are introduced to higher-level business concepts like reading financial statements, developing advertising strategies, and selecting the merchandise mix on the retail floor.
Meet Marques, who started as an apprentice
Marques was a sophomore at Central High School when he became an apprentice. He took advantage of Express Bike Shop’s unique apprenticeship program to learn new skills. Marques’s strong mechanical skills, work ethic and easy rapport with customers and coworkers earned him a promotion to part-time staff after his initial apprenticeship. Inspired by the mechanical concepts he learned fixing bikes at the shop, Marques is now working towards becoming a Mechanical Engineer. When he is not busy with school, he trains new apprentices and is an ambassador for the shop at community events.
Since 1995, over 400 young people have successfully completed a paid apprenticeship at Express Bike Shop. If you are at least 14 years old and might like to join us, please complete the online form and a member of our management team will contact you.
